![]() What is the World Ship Society? The World Ship Society is an international non-profit making association formed by people interested in the sea and in ships. It is presently the most important association of maritime interests in the world. The World Ship Society was formed in the UK in 1946 and since then has continued its expansion world-wide bringing together researchers and ship lovers with a common interest in maritime matters. At present it is represented in more than fifty countries and has more than four thousand members. The sole object of the World Ship Society is to promote interest in ships and maritime subjects. To achieve this, meetings are held with films, slide shows, photographic competitions, conferences or simply discussion on maritime themes. Visits to ships, ports, shipyards and sites of maritime interest are organised. Occasionally cruises or short maritime excursions are also organised. (SEWSS) As a result of interest shown by WSS members resident in Spain in 2001, the Spanish Branch was formed and its inaugural meeting was held in Madrid on November 3rd. of that year. To be a member of the SEWSS it is necessary to be a member of the World Ship Society. What does the Spanish Branch offer? The Spanish Branch offers its members: • Annual General Reunion at which the AGM is held. A series of activities relating to maritime subjects is also organised. The Reunions are held in a different place each year with the provision that it is a city or town with a port.
